This gorgeous city, home to the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame, is packed with attractions, thriving businesses, amazing restaurants and shops, and what’s been called the U.S.’s most active nightlife scene.

Today, Nashville is a literal crossroads of American culture. With art and history museums, musical inclinations and some of the state’s friendliest neighbors, Downtown Nashville may be the perfect place for you to call home. Its WeGo public transit system is incredibly popular, running buses at all hours of the day. There are also multiple cab companies, the Music City Star Train and several ride share companies operating in the city, and bike and electric scooter rentals are thriving.

Downtown Nashville History

Located on the Cumberland River, the city of Nashville is steeped in history and pays homage to its roots through a number of historic attractions. The first known settlers in the area were Native Americans of the Mississippian culture, who grew corn crops and thrived between the years 1000 and 1400 – and then mysteriously disappeared. Other indigenous peoples later inhabited the area, and French fur traders eventually established a trading post in the early 1700s. The first settlement here was established in 1779 and was used as Fort Nashborough, named in honor of General Francis Nash. As a strategic location on the river and the railroad, it became a Civil War battleground.
